PCA’s Gabe Edwards and Mic Wasson sign collegiate scholarships

Pinewood’s Gabe Edwards and Mic Wasson have signed scholarships to further their athletic careers at the collegiate level, announced April 14, 2022. 

Edwards signed a scholarship to attend and play baseball at Truett McConnell University. There, he will pursue a degree in exercise science. After graduating, he plans to enroll in the physical therapy program at either Mercer University or Georgia Southern University.

During his 14 years at Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA), Edwards was on the wrestling team for two years; football throughout middle school; varsity football for one full season in ninth grade; and baseball throughout middle school with four years on the varsity team. He played two half seasons of football in tenth grade but had to take the year off in eleventh grade due to injuries. He was also a member of One Act Play. 

Edwards is a member of the National Honor Society and the 1160 Club. He is an honor roll student and has been named to the all-region team for baseball. He was a member of two region championship teams (2021 and 2022) and a member of the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) AAA state championship team in 2021.

As soon as school was over each year, Edwards spent the summer playing travel baseball throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina since the age of 12. He was named to the all-tournament team for perfect game several times each summer. He was also named the tournament most valuable player for the PQ Qualifier, and his team was named tournament champions twice during his time. He was also awarded the FB 80 Plus club. 

Edwards, 17, is the son of Gene and Julie Edwards of Glennville. He has one sister, Becky Edwards.

Wasson signed a scholarship to attend and play football at Mercer University. He plans to pursue a degree in civil engineering with plans to return to this area.

He also attended PCA 14 years, playing baseball for five years, football and basketball for four years, and track for two years. 

Wasson’s PCA career football statistics include: 4,733 total rushing yards, 4,495 total passing yards, 9,283 total yards offense, and 127 total touchdowns. 

Wasson is a three-time region player of year, three-time all-state team member, GISA All-Star, GACA All-Star, three-time region championship team member (2019, 2020, and 2021), and a member of the 2021 GISA AAA State runner-up team for football at PCA. He was also named on the all-region team for basketball for three years.

In baseball, Wasson was named on the all-region team and all-state team. He was also a member of two region championship teams (2021 and 2022) and a member of the GISA AAA state championship team in 2021.

Wasson is a two-time track region champion for the 4x100 relay (2021 and 2022), a state champion for the 4x100 relay in 2022, and a member of the GISA AAA state championship team in 2022.

Wasson, 18, is the son of Keith and Amber Wasson of Glennville. He has two younger brothers, Will and Sam.
