Patriots punish the Crusaders, 60-34

The Pinewood Christian Academy Patriots took on the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders on Thursday, August 18, 2022. 

This was the Patriots’ first home game of the season and the first game ever in the newly renovated Lowell Coley Stadium. The Patriots stomped the Crusaders in a 60-34 game to begin their season 1-0. 

Sophomore Quarterback Banks Booth was the first player to score a touchdown in the new Patriot Stadium with a 15-yard run to the end zone. A two point conversion by Kaedan Arnold started the game at 8-0 for the Patriots. 

Robert Toombs was quick to respond after a quick trip to their end zone and an extra point. Wesley Tippins put the Patriots back on top with an 11-yard touchdown run. The conversion was no good and the score read 14-7. 

Avery Beasley contributed to the score after a 13-yarder to the end zone. Beasley then added another two points to the score after a conversion run, advancing the score to 22-7. 

Robert Toombs answered with a 45-yarder by Aaron Hankerson. The point after kick was good and the Crusaders attempted to get even in a 22-14 game. 

Banks Booth and Maddux Lewis then combined for an 11-yard touchdown. Beasley once again came through on the conversion and the Patriots entered halftime up 30-14. 

The second half of the game was a scoring frenzy for both teams, with the Patriots putting up another 30 points in the remainder of the ballgame. 

Noted plays are as follows: 

Junior Outside Linebacker Walker Todd had a pick-six early in the third quarter, putting the score up 36-14 for the Patriots. 

Booth had another completed pass to the end zone after connecting with Arnold for 9 yards. Booth then followed back up with a two-point conversion. The score at the end of the third quarter was 44-27. 

Booth hit another receiver, Walker Todd, for another touchdown for 5 yards. The two connected once again for the two-point conversion. 

Booth again linked with Arnold for yet another touchdown for 48 yards. Booth ran in another two-point conversion for the final score of the game. After four quarters of football, the Patriots come out on top with a score of 60-34. 

Notable stats include the following: 

The Patriots recorded 422 offensive yards with 262 passing yards. Booth was 22-26 in passing with four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Walker Todd recorded 8 catches for 78 yards, one interception, two touchdowns, and one two-point conversion. 

Will Wasson recorded 14.5 tackles with nine assists.

Jake Rogers had one kick-off return for 70 yards. 

The Patriots will play Savannah Country Day on Friday, August 26 in Savannah. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
