The Pinewood Patriots football team traveled to Lyons on Thursday, August 17, 2023, to compete with the Crusaders of Robert Toombs Christian Academy. The Patriots came out on top with a final score of 38-28.

The Patriots started things off early in the first. A 23 yard rush by senior Wesley Tippins put 6 on the board for the Patriots. The Crusaders responded with 7 late in the first, and the quarter ended with Robert Toombs up by one.

The Pats did not stay down for long, however, and this would be the last time they were down on the board for the rest of the game.

Senior receiver Walker Todd made his first TD of the game after an 8 yard reception from Junior QB Banks Booth. Todd scored again in the second with a 12 yard reception for another 6. Kaedan Arnold then ran in a touchdown after a 22 yard rush to the end zone. Booth ran yet another TD in on a keeper for 11 yards. The Patriots scored 26 points total in the second quarter alone. The Patriots went into halftime up 32-7.

After the first half of the game, the Patriots scored one more time before the end of the game. Wesley Tippins made it to the end zone in the third after a 10 yard rush. The Crusaders scored 7 and 14, respectively, in the third and fourth quarters of the game.

Notable performances are as follows:

Banks Booth was 10-15 for 136 passing yards (2 TDs) with Todd receiving 112 of those yards. Kaedan Arnold had 144 rushing yards and Tippins had 91. Tippins and Todd both had 2 touchdowns a piece and Arnold had 1. Todd recorded on 2 point conversion.

Avery Beasley led the team in total tackles with 9 (3 for loss). Jake Rogers had 6 total tackles (1 for loss) and Pearce Dutton had 6 as well with a sack. Jojo Tippet had 5 total tackles.

The Patriots will host the Savannah Country Day Hornets on Thursday, August 24, in Bellville at Lowell Coley Field.
