The Glennville Recreation Department 8U boys were crowned as Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) District 1 Class C Champions last week. Much like the Glennville 12U girls, the 8U boys faced little adversity, as they won four games straight to earn the title. In round 1, they defeated district tournament host Metter, 8-0.
In round 2, Glennville established themselves as a contender by beating a talented Evans County team, 15-7. In the next round, the Glennville boys overmatched Screven County, 20-9, to clinch a Championship berth. Claxton fought their way out of the losers' bracket to be Glennville's counterpart in the Championship game. Glennville rode the hot streak all the way to the final out, finishing with a score of 11-1.
“First, I want to say how proud I am of this group of young men. This accomplishment is the byproduct of a lot of practice, patience, and determination. I want to say thank you to Coaches Mark Rush, Seth Edwards, and Tanner Guy for the countless hours you dedicated to these young men. Your hard work this season was evident on and off the field. And lastly, I want to thank each parent for buying into the coaches' vision and trusting them to lead our boys to this level,” said Glennville Recreation Department Director Logan McCullough.
The Glennville 8U boys will represent GRPA District 1 in the State Tournament on June 21, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Adel-Cook County Recreation Department.
