Edith L. Smith, 81, passed away after a long illness at Eagle Health and Rehabilitation in Statesboro on August 20, 2022 after living in Glennville until she became ill. The Bulloch County native was born in Register, Ga on February 14, 1941, to William Frazier and Eunice Gordy Harrelson. She was the youngest of William’s 11 children and he passed away when she was only 6 months old. At a young age, she was taken in and raised by Ralph and Minnie Curry of Reidsville, Ga. She was a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and her baked hams and hand rolled dumplings were always enjoyed. Holidays were also eagerly anticipated as she would bake pecan pies and lady fingers. She joined the Reidsville First Baptist Church at a young age and later attended the Glennville First Baptist Church for many years. She was predeceased by her parents and 12 half siblings.
She is survived by her two sons, Danny(Tamela) Smith of Statesboro and Michael Smith of Glennville; two grandsons, Elijah and Joshua Smith, both of Statesboro; one sister Jeanette McNair of Shalimar, FL; nephew James McNair, Shalimar, Fl; half-brother Benjamin Wilkinson, Richmond Hill; half- sister, Doris Flakes and many half nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, with the funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Glennville Funeral Home with the Elder Steve Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
