Elbert Alberson named as grand marshal of 2024 Cobbtown Christmas parade

Elbert Alberson has been named as the grand marshal of the 2024 Cobbtown Christmas Parade set for Saturday, December 7.

Elbert Alberson was born and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee.  After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force.  He was stationed in Savannah, Georgia.  He also served overseas during the Vietnam War.

After the Air Force, he returned to Savannah where he met and married Janice Nail from Cobbtown, Georgia.  They have two children, Lynn (deceased) and Leigh, who resides in Cobbtown.

He began a career with Xerox Corporation where he retired after 30 years.

Elbert enjoyed helping others and began to do various carpenter work around Cobbtown.  Carpentry skills were learned from his father-in-law, Odis Nail.

He worked very hard to get the Cobbtown Ball Park going.  He cut the grass every Friday at the ball park for 14 years.  He went many places securing free items for the ball park-chalk, balls, and other things.  He was always at the ball park on weekends to drag the field, put down lines, and help umpire.

Elbert served as a deacon at Cobbtown Baptist Church and was instrumental in building the large social hall.

He and his wife served as charter members for the Cobbtown Fire Department.  Elbert was a volunteer fireman for 25 years.  When the Lions Club started in Cobbtown, he was a charter member and served 25 years in many positions.

Elbert served on the Tattnall County Development Authority, the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Directors for Department of Family and Children Services for several years.  He is the author of 13 books.

Presently, he enjoys retirement and spending time with family, especially grandchildren  Katie, Kayla, and Kaci; and great-grandchildren  Cade, Luke, and Avery.
