TCHS Governor's Honors nominees presented to Board members

The Tattnall County High School (TCHS) Governor's Honors nominees were presented this past week to the Tattnall County Board of Education members at their March 28 meeting.  

TCHS Counselor Shaquila Foreman made the introductions.

"This program is a four-week summer instructional experience sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and hosted at Berry College. Rising juniors and seniors are nominated by their teachers in a specific instructional area in which their abilities, aptitudes, and interests lie.  The program is designed to provide students with challenging and enriching educational opportunities," Foreman said.


The TCHS students are as follows:

Cailey Bacon, the 15-year-old daughter of Tracy and Melissa Bacon of Reidsville, was nominated in the area of Visual Arts. She is involved in One-Act Play and Future Farmers of America Club.

Anna Bender, the 16-year-old daughter of Martin and Leia Bender of Glennville, was nominated in the area of Science. She is a member of the TCHS Sound of Pride Marching Band, Beta Club, and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club.

Kari Callaway, the 16-year-old son of Chip Callaway and Ihori Kameyama of Claxton, was nominated in the area of Communicative Arts. He is a member of Beta Club and E-Sports Team at TCHS.

Kael Cuevas, the 16-year-old son of Cory Johnson, Jr., and Christina Johnson of Reidsville, was nominated in the area of Music. He is a member of the TCHS Sound of Pride Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and FBLA.

Logan Durrence, the 17-year-old son of Jeffery and Julie Durrence of Glennville, was nominated in the area of Social Studies. He is a member of the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce Junior Board of Directors, FBLA, and Beta Club.

Mason Garcia, the 17-year-old son of Julio and Vicki Garcia of Glennville, was nominated in the area of Engineering.  He is a member of the Key Club, Tattnall Youth Leadership, FBLA, and Tattnall County Chamber Junior Board of Directors, among other pursuits.

Hannah Greger, the 17-year-old daughter of Stuart and Julie Greger of Glennville, was nominated in the area of Dance. She is a member of the TCHS Competition Cheer Team, Varsity Cheer Team, and Tattnall Chamber Junior Board of Directors, among other clubs and volunteer activities.

Taylor Smith, the 17-year-old daughter of Beau and Emily Smith, was nominated in the area of Agricultural Research.  She is a member of FBLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and Beta Club.

Ah'mere Sharpe, the 16-year-old son of Sherry and Christopher Ross of Collins, was nominated in the area of Communicative Arts. He is a member of the TCHS Sound of Pride Marching Band, Battle Creek Wind Symphony, FBLA, and TCHS E-Sports Teams.

Kimberly Varela, the 17-year-old daughter of Pedro Varela and Ines Carreno of Reidsville, was nominated in the area of World Language-Spanish. She is a member of the Beta Club.

"Over 3,000 student nominations were submitted for review, and only a few were chosen as semi-finalists to interview further. Even though none of our students were chosen to participate in the final selection, we are very proud of all of them and salute them for their nominations and many accomplishments," Foreman said.
