A Back-to-School Extravaganza was held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 11 .m. at Tattnall County High School (TCHS) as a drive-thru event.  It was open to students of Tattnall County Schools, which include Tattnall County High School, South Tattnall Elementary School, North Tattnall Elementary School, North Tattnall Middle School, and South Tattnall Middle School.

The event included free book bags to the first 1200 students and other free items, which were school supplies, hygiene products, food, and more!

"We had a good response, and we hope to bring it back inside to the TCHS gym next year," said Wanda Mosley, one of the original organizers of this event that actually began at Reidsville Middle School five or six years ago. Since COVID, it has been a drive-thru event.

This event is sponsored by the Tattnall County Back-to-School Initiative, a 501(c)3 organization.  The president is Debra Carter, vice president is the Rev. Marc Foster, Corresponding Secretary is Tattnall School Supt. Dr. Gina Williams, and Treasurer is Wanda Mosley.

"From the very beginning, we have seen an awesome response.  When first held at Reidsville Middle, the line would often wrap around to the Dairy Queen.  As we saw this great need, we began to expand it to include all Tattnall students," she said.

"When we held it in the TCHS gym, we had several vendors to participate, such as Canoochee EMC, Georgia Power, armed forces, health department, and others.  We are grateful for all those who have joined us in this effort, which include businesses, churches, civic clubs, individuals, and local food banks. The Tattnall Kiwanis Club has provided the hygiene products for the students. We have made it into a community effort, with tremendous collaboration among many entities," explained Mosley.

The extravaganza is now held at TCHS a couple weeks prior to the beginning of the school year.
