Dr. Troy Rahn, who retired in 2023 after serving as Glennville's dentist for 53 years, was recognized by the City of Glennville on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., at City Hall.

Glennville Mayor Bernie Weaver presented Dr. Rahn with a proclamation and plaque that alluded to not only his professional services as a dentist but to his many civic involvements in the community. Rahn's wife, Gloria, was by his side for the event.

"You are a great Glennvillian, a great American, and a great dentist. You are humble, and you have worked hard in silence; your success is your noise," said Mayor Weaver.

A graduate of Emory University in Atlanta with a degree in Dentistry, Rahn joined the Army where he served in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, he was stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, which led him to Glennville.

While at Ft. Stewart, he met Glennville Mayor Charlie Rowland, who was a friend of the Fort Stewart Clinic Chief. He discovered that Rahn might be interested in locating a practice in the area, and Rowland eagerly recruited him for Glennville.

Dr. Rahn opened his dental office in Glennville on September 15, 1970. He has dedicated the last 53 years serving the Glennville citizens and those in surrounding communities with their dental care and treatment.

He has been actively involved in the Glennville community in many areas, the proclamation stated, such as a volunteer with the Georgia Baptist Mobile Health Medical and Dental Unit through the Tattnall-Evans Baptist Association.

Rahn was a charter member of the Glennville Rotary Club when it was formed in 1984 and served as its president for two one-year terms in addition to having perfect attendance at the meetings over his many years as a Rotarian. He is also a Rotary Major Donor.

Dr. Rahn has been a huge supporter of the Glennville Recreation Department as a board member for 25 years, beginning when the board was initially formed.

In addition, he is a Deacon of First Baptist Church of Glennville, where he has been a choir member and co-teacher with Ronnie Barnhill of the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years.

Rahn was a charter member of South Georgia Bank when it was formed in 1987 and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

Troy and Gloria Rahn have two sons: Jud, who lives in Newnan and is employed by Coca-Cola; and Jim, who is a veterinarian in Eastman. The sons and their wives have given Troy and Gloria five grandchildren.

In addition to Rahn's dental staff, several members of the Glennville First Baptist Friendship Sunday School Class attended, including Ronnie Barnhill, Margaret Barnhill, Carolyn Dixon, and Margaret Durrence. Dr. Larry Hubbard, who purchased Dr. Rahn's practice last year, was joined by past and present staff Calysta Dent, Camy Bland, Shawnda White, Melissa Hales, Jessica Pascual-Ubaldo, Dr. Katie Unes, and Megan Johnson.

The plaque presented to Dr. Rahn reads: "James Troy Rahn, DDS: May you be proud of the work you have done, the person you are, and the difference you have made. Retired 2023."
