Lady Pats shine at the plate in victories over Gators and Yellow Jackets

The Lady Patriots softball team got busy at the plate over the past week. With a total of 22 hits over two games, the Patriots went 2-2 for the week. 

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Lady Patriots played on their home field against region opponent Bulloch Academy. The Lady Pats won out in a 9-6 game. 

Sophomore Katelin Smith went 4-4 with a single in the first inning, a double in the third, a gram slam in the fourth, and a double in the sixth. 

Freshman AC Danner also went 4-4. The slapper got things moving and lit up the field with four singles to pressure the Gators defense. Danner also recorded five putouts at right field to contain the Gators on the bases. 

Milli Anderson got the start for the Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) Lady Patriots. The right-hander struck out four and only walked one. Catcher Gracie Fox was also solid behind the plate with only one passed ball and no steals allowed.

The Pinewood Lady Patriots tallied 13 hits. Smith, Danner, and Anderson were the leading hitters for PCA, Smith and Danner with four each and Anderson with two. 

On Wednesday, the Lady Patriots took on the Yellow Jackets of Southeast Bulloch (SEB). A member of the Georgia High School Association, SEB’s softball team is ranked in the top ten in 4-A, according to MaxPreps. The Lady Pats stole the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over the Jackets. PCA trailed 4-5 in the top of the seventh inning when Senior Fox singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. 

SEB scored three runs in the first inning, but the Lady Pats still managed to pull out the victory. The Patriots knotted the game up at three in the top of the fourth inning when Freshman DH Ramsey Middleton homered on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs. 

The Lady Patriots racked up nine hits. Katelin Smith and Gracie Fox each had multiple hits for PCA. Smith went 3-4 at the plate to lead the team. The Patriot defense was also sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Smith had the most opportunities and recorded a whopping 12 putouts. 

The Lady Patriots will play in Bellville on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday in Milledgeville on the 28. Check www.tattnalljournal.net for game scores.
