The Lady Patriots went one for two last week on the softball diamond.

The girls lost 8-6 to #3 ranked Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) Class AAA John Milledge Academy (JMA) in a nail biter that was not decided until the last inning. Later in the week, the Lady Patriots traveled all the way to Douglas to take on the Patriots of Citizen’s Christian Academy. The Pinewood Patriots won out 10-3 in a laser show at the plate. The Patriots will play next at home against rival and region opponent Bulloch Academy on Tuesday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, September 13, the Pinewood Patriots softball team hosted the Lady Trojans of JMA. The Patriots stayed in it until the end, but JMA pulled away late in an 8-6 victory over the Lady Pats.

Despite the loss, the Lady Patriots recorded 11 hits in the high scoring affair. The Patriots scored in the first inning after a fielder’s choice by Gracie Fox scored one run. The Patriots then notched four runs in the fourth inning after a slew of RBIs by Aubree Cate Danner and Milli Anderson.

The Lady Trojans responded big at the plate, however, recording 12 hits that included two homers in the seventh inning to put the Trojans ahead from a 6-4 deficit.

Danner and Anderson were the leading hitters–each collecting three hits to lead the Lady Pats at the plate.

Later in the week, on Thursday, the Pinewood Lady Patriots traveled to Douglas to take on the ranked Patriots of Citizen’s Christian Academy. Our Lady Pats coasted to an easy victory over Citizen’s Christian 10-3.

In the first inning, two hits by Katelin Smith and Danner put PCA up by one early in the game after Smith came into home. After a single by Aniston Callanan, Danner got around and the Patriots began the game up by two.

CCA responded with another two runs and the game was tied after one inning going into the second. The score remained tied 2-2 until the fourth when Gracie Fox hit into a fielder’s choice. Ramsey Middleton stepped up to the plate and forced an error to get Fox home.

Then the fifth inning came and the PCA Lady Patriots scored a total of 4 runs. A double by Smith, a five pitch walk by Danner and a single by Milli Anderson got Smith home yet again. A passed ball drove in Danner and a single by Gracie Fox moved Mia Tatum (courtesy runner for Anderson) advanced to third. After a dirt ball read signaled Tatum to steal home, the Patriots were up 6-2 after six batters. Ramsey Middleton then grounded out to the shortstop and Fox got home. The inning ended with the PCA Patriots up 7-2.

Citizen’s Christian only scored one more run for the remainder of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Pinewood Lady Pats scored the remainder of their three runs in the top of the seventh. Anderson forced another error to get to second base (Tatum running for Anderson again). Callanan sac bunted and Tatum advanced to third. Gracie Fox singled to the shortstop to score Tatum and record an RBI. Moncrief singled to the shortstop as well and Fox scored. Middleton singled to the center fielder and Madison Bashlor doubled to drive Moncrief home. Last Patriots ended the ballgame up 10-3 after a quick half inning and the Patriots drove all the way home victorious.

The Lady Patriots play twice this week, Tuesday at home and Wednesday at Southeast Bulloch at 6:30 p.m.
