The Pinewood Lady Patriots went 6-5 against the Lady Crusaders Robert Toombs Christian Academy and 9-3 against region opponent Lady Gators of Bulloch Academy.

On Tuesday, September 6, the Lady Patriots hosted the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders. A walk-off single propelled the Lady Pats to a decisive and dramatic victory over RTCA in international tie-breaker. The Lady Patriots trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Katelin Smith singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Lady Crusaders scored first in the first inning. Smith responded with a homerun in the first–hitting a dinger over center field. By the sixth inning, everything was tied up four to four after Aubree Cate Danner drew a walk and scored one run.

Going into the eighth inning, still tied up 4-4, the Crusaders scored on a fielder’s choice at the top of the eighth. At the bottom of the eighth, still down by one run, the Patriots made great decisions at the plate. With Ramsey Middleton on first, Madison Bashlor singled on a hard ground ball to second base, and Libby Kate Blocker singled on a slap to the shortstop. With bases loaded, Smith stepped up to the plate and singled to a line drive in right field. Middleton and Bashlor scored and the game ended with the Lady Pats up 6-5.

The Lady Patriots racked up eight hits. Bashlor, Blocker, and Smith were the top sluggers of the game – each with two hits on the day. Milli Anderson was in the circle for the Patriots and recorded zero walks and four strikeouts.

Later in the week on Thursday, September 8, the Lady Patriots traveled to Statesboro to take on their first region opponent of the year, rivals Lady Gators of Bulloch Academy. The Lady Patriots beat the Gators in a blowout victory with a score of 9-3.

The game was tied up by the third inning at 2-2. However, the Patriots began to pull away in the fourth after an RBI by Bashlor pushed in Emily Moncrief to put the Patriots ahead 3-2. Smith singled on a fly ball in the top of the fifth, and Danner followed up with a single to center field. Aniston Callanan then beat out a bad throw by the second baseman to get Smith in. Danner followed up after a fielder’s choice by Gracie Fox and the inning ended with Pinewood up 5-2.

The Lady Patriots tallied four runs in the seventh inning. Smith singled again to left field, and Danner beat out a throw to first and after a pick off at second. Smith got home again, and Danner got out.

Anderson singled on a line drive to center field, Callanan got hit by a pitch, and Fox singled to right field. Moncrief singled to right field, and Ramsey Middleton doubled on a huge hit to left field and the Patriots ended the seventh up 9-3.

The Patriots ended the game with 13 hits, including one homerun and committed zero errors. Anderson was yet again in the circle for the Patriots and was solid with zero walks.

On Monday, September 12, the Lady Patriots softball team got revenge on the David Emanuel Academy Lady Eagles.

The Lady Patriots scored in the first inning after Callanan recorded an RBI by driving in Smith after Callanan singled.

The Patriots scored again in the third inning after Blocker singled on a slap to the center fielder, Smith was hit by a pitch, Danner walked, and Anderson singled to the center fielder. Anderson’s single sent Blocker home and the Patriots ended the third inning up 3-0.

Smith homered in the fourth and scored again on a passed ball in the sixth. The Eagles attempted a comeback later in the seventh but the Patriots had already sealed the deal by the seventh inning.

The Lady Patriots recorded 6 hits on the day. Callanan went two-for-three at the plate, and Smith continued to dominate at the plate with yet another home run early in the fourth inning. Anderson was in the circle for the Patriots allowing six hits and two runs over seven innings.

Pinewood hosted John Milledge at home at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13. Game scores will be made available at www.tattnalljournal.net.
