Ushers from Evans and Tattnall County went to Memphis, Tennessee, to the 118th Annual Session of The National Baptist Congress of Christian Education to add knowledge to a strong Usher Ministry of serving their home church and abroad. Dr. Brenda L. Eason, President Usher and Nurses’ Auxiliary, taught the weeklong class and gave the group the name The Mighty Five Ushers from Georgia. It was estimated by the website over 30,000 plus would attend.
Those in attendance were:
Green Cypress Missionary Baptist Church of Claxton, Pastor Harry Small; Deaconess Izetta (Roosevelt) Palmer; and Deaconess Cynthia (Kevin) Ross.
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church of Daisy, Pastor C.L. Anderson; and Deaconess Ruby McRae.
St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Claxton, Pastor Will White; Sister Cecilia Carter.
The topics of the class focused on several today’s needs:
• To realize that the “Call” for the Ministry of Ushers
• To Serve our Lord and Savior as we extend God’s invitation to all.
• Ushers should be ready, willing, and able to evangelize ultimately, helping to win souls for Christ
• How to handle emergencies (medical and large crowds, etc.)
• Establish common signals for each other to keep service in order.
• History of Ushers staying in line with God’s Word.
• Leaning on each other for support or getting support from the district.
After the Mighty Five left the classroom, their Jesus gift kick-in, they kept safety out front. Their eyes saw a need to feed the homeless. After walking away, the gentleman moved down the street in tears and shared his blessing with another homeless man.
