Trevor Kuchar places first in 5K Kidz Etc race

Trevor Kuchar, age 16, placed first overall in the 5K race sponsored by Kidz Etc in the August 10, 2024, race, with 30 runners participating. 

Rusty Higgason and his wife, Karen, were the first adult male and female to complete the race, and the race became a family affair when their daughter, Macey Higgason, age 16, placed first among the female teens.

Tyler Gamble, age 16, placed first among the male teens. In the children’s division, Raelynn Allen, age 9, placed first among the female children; Michael Spurgeon, age 6, placed first among the male children.  

Kidz Etc, a non-profit, was formed in 1994 by Linda K. Futch, age 82, and this year’s race is the 11th.  The organization has fundraisers, including beauty pageants, that raise money for community assistance, such as food, clothing, elderly needs, and other requests.

This past year, Kidz Etc presented  $500 scholarships to four Long County High School seniors and $1000 scholarships to two McIntosh Academy seniors.

The 5K race was organized by Debbie Gaitten and her mother, Linda Kay Futch.
