The past year of service of the Glennville Lions Club culminated the evening of Monday, July 1, 2024, with an installation of officers held at a banquet at The Farmhouse in Glennville. Terry Quick, who has served as president of the club several times since the club was reactivated in 2009, will serve as the club president for the 2024-25 year. Terry will also serve as LCIF (Lions Club International Foundation) Coordinator. President for the past year, Mickey Anderson, will continue to serve as Treasurer, as he has for the past several years.

Other officers who will serve are Pam Waters, Vice President, Secretary, and Club Marketing Chair;  Patricia Lee, Membership Chair; Donnie Epperson, Lion Tamer; Lynda Goodell, Lion Twister; and other Board members are Norman Davisworth, Diane Quick, and Steve Long.

Mickey Anderson, former Glennville Chief of Police and one of the club’s charter members,  was voted by his fellow Lions as Glennville Lion of the Year. He has previously served as club president in addition to the treasurer. He also always assists with the club’s projects throughout the year.

Citizen of the Year is also voted on by the club members, and Lion Patricia Lee has earned this honor for the 2023-2024 year.  Although she was unable to attend due to a medical issue, appreciation was rendered for her services during the year; her compassionate care of special needs adults was noted by her fellow Lions.

Three new members were installed into the Glennville Lions Club. These are Joyce Nelson and Avery Nelson, sponsored by Shellie Smith, and Vonda Griffith, sponsored by Laurie Bergeron. As part of the installation, the three recited the Lions Club pledge and were pinned by their sponsors.

Lions Club meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 12 noon at The Farmhouse, with the next meeting on Thursday, July 25. Board meetings are open to all Lions Club members and are usually held prior to the regular meeting. Dues are $25 per quarter for Glennville Lions Club members.

In accepting the gavel from Mickey, Terry commented one of the goals is to increase the membership with dedicated citizens who are devoted to the ideals of Lionism. He pointed out the Lions Club banner on the wall: “When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We Serve. It’s something that unites Lions around the world, and it’s unconditional. Lions aren’t limited by continents or restricted to certain causes. We help wherever, whenever, and however we can.”

Although the Lions Club is usually first thought of for their sight-related assistance, Lions also are leaders in other areas, such as supporting global causes including prevention and treatment of diabetes, protecting the environment, feeding the hungry, and helping the most vulnerable in society.  Through the support of the Lions Club Foundation, these goals can be achieved.
