To qualify as a municipality to receive LOST funds, they must provide at least three of the following services: water, sewage, garbage collection, police protection, fire protection, or library.

The Tattnall County Commissioners approved the millage for 2022 for Tattnall County as 13.989, compared to 13.168 for 2021.

The mills before Option Sales Tax Credit are 17.946, less Local Option Sales Tax ($1,360,000) credit of 3.957, for the total Tattnall County Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Levy of 13.989.  The millage was approved at a special called meeting on September 19, 2022.  The Notice of Property Tax Increase and 2022 Property Tax Digest and 5-Year History of Levy was previously printed as required in The Journal Sentinel.

The FY 2023 Insurance Premium Tax Budget was also approved. The revenue generated is from a tax levied on the sale of life insurance policies sold within each jurisdiction in Tattnall County, which is distributed to each municipality based on the sales within. The total projected revenue for Tattnall County in FY 2023 is $1,275,000. The revenue must be spent only on services of which the majority must be in the Tattnall County unincorporated rural areas, as each municipality receives their portion. County Manager Frank Murphy said that 100 percent of County Fire ($471,035) and 35 percent of County Road Maintenance ($803,966) are funded by the tax proceeds.
