Everyone is invited to the 157th annual Tattnall Campmeeting to be held at the Tattnall Campground, located at 3769 Campground Road in Claxton.
The annual week-long camp meeting kicks off this weekend, with a July 13 Saturday Night Gospel sing, featuring Karen Peck and New River at 7 p.m.
Admission is free, and concessions will be available at the Saturday night event.
Karen Peck and New River is a prominent figure in the Gospel Music industry, with numerous awards and accolades. The group was formed in 1991 and has since traveled internationally to share the Gospel through music. Karen Peck is a leader in the Southern Gospel Music industry, serving on the boards of various organizations and receiving honors for her contributions. In addition to their music, Karen had roles in movies, such as Joyful Noise. The group has achieved over 20 Number One hits and continues to deliver a progressive sound while staying true to their traditional roots. Karen Peck & New River is a family affair, with Karen and Rickey's children and other family members being part of the group. Collectively, they remain committed to sharing the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Tattnall Campmeeting services will begin on Sunday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., with daily services (Monday-Friday) at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The final service will be on Sunday, July 21, at 11 a.m.
Day camp for children preschool age and up will run from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost for day camp is $10 a day or $50 for the week.
There will also be a Tattnall “Spend the Night” camp from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m., for rising 4th through 12th
graders. The cost is $200 for the week, and space is limited. Dr. Matt Brady will lead the morning services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeremy Lindsey conducting the evening services at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Larry E. Bird will preach on Sunday morning, July 21, at 11 a.m., and Mr. John Morgan will be the song leader.
All services are held in the campground's historic open-air tabernacle, which can accommodate 800 people.
Tattnall Campground has a rich history and held its first session in October of 1967. The present tabernacle was built in 1930, and the grounds were originally established in 1867.
While originally linked to Methodism, the grounds are no longer owned or operated by the United Methodists. The grounds were originally deeded to a group of trustees and continue to be governed by the Tattnall Campground trustees today.
People from diverse religious backgrounds attend the Tattnall Campmeetings to bring more souls to Christ each year.
