At their meeting of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Ludowici city officials approved the renewal of the AirEvac contract at an annual fee of $7357, which allows every citizen in the city limits of Ludowici to be covered for an emergency helicopter transport at no cost to them.

"We are only one of a few cities with this contract, and even though we may not have but three or four emergency helicopter transports by AirEvac a year, if one life is saved, this is well worth the fee," said Mayor Jim Fuller, with unanimous approval by the council.

Another agenda item was the approval of the Retirement Plan Ordinance and Adoption Agreement, with the model plan prepared by Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). This provides for early retirement at age 55 and regular retirement at age 65.

Also, Kristin Hopkins-Graham of the Liberty County United Way, appealed to the council members to approve allowing a contribution deduction from the paychecks of city employees, if the employees so desire to do so.  She added that she is already working with the Long County School Board for the provision of the Backpack Buddies Program, which helps provide food over the weekend for students with food insecurity at home. Once Long County is officially approved to be a part of the United Way, the chapter will be known as the Liberty-Long United Way.
