Jeremiah Thomas, who has been serving as Interim Ludowici Police Chief for the past several weeks, was approved by the Ludowici City Council as the new Police Chief for the City of Ludowici at a council meeting on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was one of seven candidates for the job, and after the closed session, Mayor Jim Fuller and Council Member Andy Fuller recused themselves from the vote.
Thomas' experience of nine years in the police force and 22 years in the military along with his enthusiasm and dedication to public service made him an ideal candidate for the role as Ludowici Police Chief.
He has served as a police officer/patrolman for the Ludowici Police Department since August of 2023, where he has been active in meeting with local business owners about the prevention of crime and participating in investigations that led to multiple arrests.
His résumé includes his service as a U.S. Marine in the Marine Corps Security Forces, and he served as Company Maintenance Chief and Allied Trade Shop Manager, in addition to other responsibilities from 1995 to 2006. He also served as a recruiter for the Georgia Army National Guard in 2006 and 2007.
Thomas also served six combined combat tours between Iraq and Afghanistan.
In May of 2007 through August 2015, Thomas was in the Army at Ft. Stewart where he was the Company Maintenance Manager and Logistics Supervisor as the Detachment 1SG. Following that service, he was a police officer/patrolman for the Savannah Police Department for the next three years. In 2018-2019, he served in that capacity for the Hinesville Police Department.
"As a member of the police force, I have developed excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable me to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders. My commitment to upholding the integrity of the law and protecting the safety of the community is unwavering. I am eager to bring my knowledge and experience to the Ludowici Police Department as the new Chief of Police. I am confident that my enthusiasm for justice and public safety will be an asset to the team. Because my professional goals align with the Ludowici Police Department's mission and values, this opportunity is especially exciting. I believe my communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities will support and drive your continued organizational success," said Thomas.
