A group of approximately 20 Glennville Garden Club members and a few prospects for Garden Club membership joined together for a day in Baxley on Thursday, May 2, 2024. They departed from the Glennville Garden Club Center around 10 a.m., with their first stop at the Tequilas Mexican Restaurant for a meal together. From there, they made the short drive to County Farm on the outskirts of Baxley.
The wholesale nursery is owned and operated by James and Maria Cook, who began the business over 35 years ago with just one 1400 square foot greenhouse and a wholesale route. Today, County Farm has 56 greenhouses that cover an area of approximately 35 acres. Of these, 540,000 square feet are greenhouse space. The business employs 40 full-time employees and ten seasonal employees.
The greenhouses include over 100,000 flats of bedding and vegetable plants; over one million annuals and perennials in 4” and 5” pots; over 100,000 hanging baskets; 15,000 ferns; 40,000 8” mums; 20,000 poinsettias (in season); and ten million vegetable transplants.
County Farm sells a diversity of seasonal plants to garden centers, hardware stores, landscapers, farmers, and others within a 150-mile radius.
The retail Garden Center offers garden and landscaping needs, such as trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, fountains, bird baths, pergolas, concrete décor, garden statuary, and mulch. For more information on County Farm, call 912-367-3299 or visit their website for operating hours.
