A much anticipated annual event for several years for the Keenagers (senior citizens) of First Baptist Church of Glennville has been the annual fish fry provided by Glennville Funeral Home.  Even though owner Brad Anderson was obligated to be at a meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Macon as a member of the Georgia Board of Funeral Services, the event was still held, with Brad’s father, Danny Anderson; Steve Long; and Danny Dinkins filling in for Brad.  They fried mounds of fish caught in local ponds and at the coast, delectable hush puppies, and crisp French fries, along with their preparation of coleslaw and baked beans. The delicious layer cakes were provided by Bobby Baker.

Shelma Kitchens, Keenagers Coordinator at First Baptist, welcomed the crowd of senior citizens to the 12 noon event last week. The tables were all festively decorated in a St. Patrick’s Day theme, also.

After enjoying the sumptuous feast, the attendees were treated to the musical talents of First Baptist Minister of Music Phillip Shepherd and his wife, Carole. Songs included “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “I’ve Got Joy,” among other selections.

Minister Shepherd talked about being positive in your everyday life. He emphasized to be positive in your convictions; be positive in your conversations; be positive in your crises; and be positive in your countenance.

“You want to be a Tigger and not an Eeyore,” he commented.

In closing, Minister Shepherd recalled his late mother, who died at age 94,  and her strong faith and the well-read family Bible that was always on her table.
