This week, Glennville Bank gave a boost to the Picnic in the Park for the July 6 fireworks display with a $1000 donation to the event, presenting a check to Laurie Bergeron, organizer of the event.

Picnic in the Park, an event planned for Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Glennville Recreation Park, continues to need funding for the fireworks display, the highest cost of the activities planned for that day, according to Bergeron.

"We are grateful for this most recent check from Glennville Bank, and the funding to date has allowed us to place the required down payment on the $16,000 cost of the fireworks. However, we still lack over $5000 to have sufficient funds for the display," said Laurie.

The day will also include food and craft vendors, commercial exhibits, bouncy houses, a mechanical bull ride, an interactive game, a cornhole tournament, a large maze/obstacle course, a petting zoo, and pony rides. No entrance fees to the event will be charged, but individual attractions will have reasonable fees.

Sponsor levels are as follows: Platinum, $3000 and up; Gold, $2000-$2999; Silver, $1000-$1999; Bronze, $500-$999; and Friends, up to $499.

To date, Canoochee Foundation has contributed $4000 as a Platinum sponsor, with others as follows: Silver-Glennville Bank, $1000; Rotary Corporation, $1000; Hugh J. McCullough Law Firm, $1000; Southeastern Supply ($1500); Bronze ($500)-South Georgia Bank, Daniel Anderson Trucking LLC, and Glennville Garden Club; and Friends: Reidsville Ace Hardware and McLeod Properties, $250 each; Glennville Auto Parts/Bumper to Bumper, $200; Mascot Pecan Company, $150;  and Tim's Mowers & More, $100.

A free play area will also be provided by Joyce Nelson.

Food booths will also be available.

"We really just want to bring some wholesome family fun to the Glennville Recreation Park, and we will be hosting a few fundraisers as well to help with our expenses. We have not had fireworks in Glennville for many years, and the activities at the park just add to the merriment of the day.  We recognize many families cannot afford a weekend at the beach, but this day will be fun, affordable, and family oriented," assured Laurie.
