Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Treat Day at Glennville DQ is always a festive day of celebration and generosity as the entire town turns out to support this event.  On Thursday, July 25, 2024, when the DQ closed at 10 p.m., DQ owner Zuber Malek was elated to announce the grand total of $30,624, with a goal of $20,024.

“My community of Glennville continues to astound me, first for their generous giving and second for their rallying around this event in so many other ways.  Our July 20 Blizzard Run is just one example, when over 100 winners came out, and we raised over $3300 for this Treat Day, and thanks to the Blizzard Run sponsors, too,” said Malek.

One of the highlights of the day is the noon Blizzard auction, which brought a whopping $4000. The bid of $2000 from Chris Driggers (of E&E Automotive and Kenny Watson’s Collision Center) was matched by Armstrong’s Cricket Farm, taking the total to $4000 for the Blizzard.

Another 1 p.m. auction item was Anytime Fitness-Glennville gym membership for a year. Cindy Robles’ high bid of $450 will provide her with the benefits of the gym for a year.

Debi Crow bid $225 for one large specialty pizza for the next 12 months from Marco’s Pizza in Glennville, another addition to the Miracle Treat Day coffers.

Helen Watson will fill her sweet tooth for the next year with an ice cream cake  each month for her bid of $200.

Jim Wimmer was the high bidder of $100 for a Captain’s Platter each month for a year from Captain D’s in Glennville.

Local beauty queens also were plentiful, as these title holders filled orders behind the counter, served customers at their booths, and worked the drive-in window as well. For many of these, community service is part of their platform.

“We certainly appreciate our Miracle Treat Day sponsors,  who are faithful in supporting us,” said Malek.

These include: Platinum Level ($1000)-Terrell’s Heating & Air, Tattnall Trio, and Armstrong’s Cricket Farm; Silver ($500)-Glennville Sweet Onion Festival; Silver ($300);  Friends of Law Enforcement ($250); and Bronze ($100)-Terry and Pam Waters.

Sponsors for the Blizzard Run include: Miracle Level ($300)-Armstrong’s Cricket Farm, Tattnall Trio, and Jailbreak Bonding; Bleed Purple Level ($250)-Tattnall County Magazine, GB Bank Group, and Kick’s Do All; and Running Man ($200)-Donald Fountain and Rusty Pig.

Several individuals and businesses, such as Rotary Corporation, Glennville Bank, and Dr. Troy Rahn, bought hundreds of Blizzard coupons, and these are appreciated, too, added Malek.

Contributing to the amounts raised were the sale of $1 paper balloon and even $3 paper balloons. These balloon purchases carried coupons that more than paid for the paper balloon donation. These covered the windows of the DQ restaurant.

Savanah area media publicizes this worthy cause, including Dan Scott of WJCL and Olivia Wright from WTOC  as well as The Journal Sentinel.

Prior to the auctions, Glenda Thompson of Glennville Anytime Fitness presented Cindy Robles with a special t-shirt with the wording “Here to Help” for her community service whenever needed.

Kelly Claxton, representing the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and David Trego, Business Consultant for DQ, attended the Miracle Treat Day event in Glennville. Kelly has probably attended most every Miracle Treat Day in Glennville since Zuber Malek has been promoting this superb cause.

“I would like to thank everyone for supporting a great cause for children with medical conditions by donating, volunteering, and purchasing Blizzards. I am truly blessed to be a part of a caring and generous community as Glennville, Georgia. Thank you to our media partners, Chamber, and civic groups who supported us, too,” said Malek.
