The Mayor and Council of the City of Glennville at a called meeting on Thursday, August 22, 2024, approved an amendment to Chapter 4 relating to the sale of alcoholic beverages in the City. They approved the permitting and sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the downtown area, contingent upon Council approval and appropriate permitting. Approved events are limited to a maximum duration of 48 hours. Vendors participating under these conditions are required to obtain a Special Event Permit (Class IV Alcohol License) from the state, which is valid for up to 72 hours.
The request for this amendment was prompted due to a planned Glennville Art and Wine Festival slated for Saturday, October 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. along with a live band at the Stage at Bar-nard area. The event is sponsored by the Glennville Art and Cultural Society.
Also, at the meeting the council approved an amendment to Chapter 22-Environment, Section 22-32 (c), Item (6) only, regarding Land Clearing and Burning with an Air Curtain Destructor. "The air curtain destructor shall be constructed, installed, and operated in a manner consistent with good air pollution control practice for minimizing emissions of fly ash and smoke, in accordance with Georgia Open Burning Rules (391-3-02(5) for Air Quality," reads the amendment.{
