Watermelons spill onto side of North Veterans Blvd. in Glennville from collision between Freightliner bus and Chevy Silverado.

A former 2003 school bus being used to transport watermelons was involved in an accident with a Chevy Silverado last Wednesday, July 13, 2022, around noon in front of the Krispy Chic Restaurant on Hwy. 301 N. (Veterans Blvd.) in Glennville.

According to the Glennville Police report, the driver of the 2017 Chevy Silverado, Mark Silcox, of Savannah, was stopped in the northbound lane and was waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn into the parking lot of Krispy Chic.  He said a log truck stopped in the southbound inside lane of Veterans Blvd. to let him through.  Thinking the traffic was clear and not seeing the Freightliner bus, he pulled in front of the bus.

The Freightliner bus was traveling southbound in the inside lane of Veterans Blvd. and the driver, Felipe Cruz Hernandez, of Reidsville, said that a truck stopped in the inside lane of Veterans Blvd. in front of him. Hernandez, according to the report, said he changed into the outside and continued south, adding that the Silverado pulled in front of him, causing his vehicle to strike the Silverado, which overturned.

No one was injured in the accident.
