A log truck accident blocked the road on Hwy 57 north of Reidsville near the Billy Alexander Road as a result of downed power lines for approximately four hours on Friday, June 12, 2024.  The estimated time of the crash was 11:30 a.m. It is believed that the female driver of the truck, Kelly Lee Beverly, age 47, had some kind of medical emergency that caused her to veer across the center line and the left side of the road whereby by the truck turned over on the driver’s side, according to the wreck report.  The driver was trapped inside and it required almost four hours to extricate her from the crushed cab of the vehicle.  At one point, emergency responders were worried that her leg might have to be amputated to successfully extricate her.

Fire Departments from Reidsville, Collins, the Georgia State Prison, and Metter responded and the severe heat in the middle of the day caused problems for responders working to free the driver.

Logs from the truck spilled onto the Billy Alexander Road, which required cleanup, and the downed power lines had to be repaired before the road could be opened.

The truck was traveling south when the driver failed to maintain the lane and veered across to the east shoulder and travelled 188 feet before striking a fence.  The truck travelled another 178 feet before striking a utility pole and rolling over on the driver’s side.

A camera in the truck showed that the driver grabbed her chest before losing control of the vehicle.

After extrication, the driver was air evacuated to Memorial in Savannah. Sources stated that her injuries were not life threatening.
