Tattnall County Ag Facility holds grand opening

The Tattnall County Agricultural Facility on the Tattnall County High School (TCHS) campus was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The ribbon was cut by Tattnall County School Superintendent Dr. Kristen Waters, who was joined by over a hundred Tattnall County School staff, Central Office staff, TCHS Future Farmers of America (FFA) members, and community well-wishers.

"We have waited a long time for this day, and we thank Cliff Riner and LaNell Oliver for their tenacity, and for the influence of State Senator Blake Tillery and State Representative Leesa Hagan for their influence in securing the funds for this building. This will be utilized by our Young Farmers Association and will serve our students and farmers," said Superintendent Waters before cutting the ribbon.

The Tattnall County Ag Facility is 5,261 square feet and includes a show ring area that is 35 feet x 40 feet, in addition to a climate-controlled kitchenette and restroom area, seating, and storage areas.

Construction on the facility began in November 2025. The agriculture facility will be used for livestock shows, agriculture classes, Young Farmer and 4-H events, annual Ag Day sponsored by Farm Bureau, and other agricultural related meetings and events.

The building cost was $800,000, with $300,000 appropriated by the General Assembly in 2025, led by Senator Blake Tillery, and the remainder of the cost was funded through SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax).

The building is owned by the school district as a part of the TCHS campus. It was constructed by Performance Services, which contracted with many local businesses to complete the project.

Cliff Riner and LaNell Oliver with the Tattnall Young Farmers organization were instrumental in helping request and secure the funding. Richard Bland was the school board chairman at the time and was also greatly involved in the project.

Refreshments were served at the August 27 event, mainly prepared from Tattnall County grown products.
